Comparison of Mechanical Analytical Methods on the Bowdlerised Text

Discussion

For the purposes of this page, mechanical means the simple coputerised analysis based upon simple algorithms. More complex methods of analysis are not included here as they have the potential of providing a result that is more accurate in some respects (lookng at the style of writing allows the interpreter to look at the specific use of language - occurances of the word "merit" for example - rather than the more generalised aspects of it) although more subjective in others.

The three methods (to date) included here are the two grammar analysers (with Word Perfect 6.1 and Word Pro 97) and a simple word ratios analysis.

It can be seen from the two grammar checkers that the Flesch results are the same (the grade having an inverted relationship to the ease of reading score) and that it is possible to define a level that divides the scores with paragraphs falling on either side but with some paragraphs' scores falling further from that level than others.

In addition to this, it is possile to compare the function of the paragraphs that have remarkable scores.

Paragraphs 1 and 2 figure frequently as foreign paragraphs - both of these set the scene and therefore are particularly important to the effectiveness of the sharade.

Paragraphs 7 and 8 also figure frequently and set the scene for a provable allegation of intimidation that the company wished to play down and false allegation of obstruction that was later disproved.

The Word Pro 97 analysis shows up paragraphs 13 and 14 as exceptional in addition to the others mentioned above - these paragraphs dealing with the specific events concerning the goings on in the appeal hearing.

Summary

Analysis "Foreign" Paragraphs
(in decending order of remarkability)
Corel WordPerfect V6.1 Grammatik 8, 1, 2 and 14a are outstanding.
Results from Word Ratios Analysis 11, 9, 7 outstanding with 1 and 8 noteworthy
Lotus Word Pro 97 Grammar Checker 2, 7, 13, 1 and 14 are outstanding

Conclusion

Taking into consideration the limitations of the extent of the document, the mechanical methods show the high probability of the strategically important paragraphs to be from a second writer. As there was never a signed version of the document, it was given and accepted on the grounds that it was the unaltered text of the alleged author - this is clearly not the case.
