The whole painting -
'Olivia' - One of our cats - the only one of them that is a mother cat (mother of romy) - in the style of Jan Van Eyke's portrait of his wife, along with a healthy dose of Rogier Van der Weyden's paintings added.

Copyright (c)2016 Paul Alan Grosse Close-up of the Grosse coat of arms - from the 'Roll of Arms of the Reign of Edward the Second'; 'Le Gros, quartile de argent e de azure, a une bende de sable e iij merelos de or' - quarters of silver and blue and a diagonal black band with three gold blackbirds. Olivia - Ætatis Suæ II - Anno Domini 2015
(Olivia - aged 2 - the year 2015)
Close-up of the Grosse coat of arms - from the 'Roll of Arms of the Reign of Edward the Second'; 'Le Gros, quartile de argent e de azure, a une bende de sable e iij merelos de or' - quarters of silver and blue and a diagonal black band with three gold blackbirds.
Close-up of the curly edges of the soft, fine fabric that go to make up the seven layers of the head dress. Copyright (c)2016 Paul Alan Grosse The end of one of these layers as it drapes over her left shoulder. You can also see how the gold part of the brocade is made up from a ground that has had several grades of gold shadow-to-highlight added, then toned down with a dark, neutral wash and then more highlights added to it in order to break out of the shadow. Close-up of the ermine on her left (our right) side, showing the hairs painted individually. Copyright (c)2016 Paul Alan Grosse Close-up of her belt, showing the different reflective properties of the two materials that make it up. Copyright (c)2016 Paul Alan Grosse

Close-up of the brocade pattern on her upper-right arm, showing how the pattern follows the folds of the cloth and how the highlights in the gold silk are prepresented by strokes of different colours. Copyright (c)2016 Paul Alan Grosse Close-up of the brocade pattern on her upper-left arm, again showing how the pattern follows the folds of the cloth but also of how the wool part of the brocade shows a highlight at the dark edge where the pile is side-on. Extreme close-up of folds of brocade on her right arm, showing the brown paint, the less-saturated ground, the gold ochre and the ochre tint that is used for for the highlighted threads. Copyright (c)2016 Paul Alan Grosse Again, an extreme close-up of folds in the brocade although this time, on the other sleeve and with the light coming from the end of the fold and not across it.
