Water Rockets - What's New

New

My current projects are:

A recovery system that uses a timer and muscle wire - a type of memory wire. I've got the muscle wire, all I need is the time to build it; and,
A retro rocket (see bottom of page).

  • 24th June 2002 - Water Rocket Sounds for MS Windows. Sounds for all of those events (I like the empty recycle bin one :-). I've got all of this stuff on one page now so that it is easier to locate - Screen saver, Wallpapers, Icons and Cursors, Sounds and the Water Rocket Utility Font.
  • 20th June 2002 - Water Rocket Screen Saver. A new screen saver. This one has a little character who walks across the bottom of the screen, places a water rocket on a launcher and walks off. The rocket then launches. Will it deploy its parachute okay or will the rocket lawn-dart or maybe even blow up? Set your excuses on the configuration screen.
  • 2nd June 2002 - Windows 98 (or higher) Water Rocket Icons and Cursors. Change the standard icons for your desktop and your mouse cursors with these files. Details of how to do it on the page.
  • 27th May 2002 - Built the aerial photography video camera and took some pictures with it. Pictures page includes stills from the video and video footage (needs Real Media).
  • 20th September 2001 - Added a further problem to the 3D problems files to solve. This is included in the ZIP file you can download.
  • 16th September 2001 - Added a zip file of the 3D problems files to solve, updated the Water Rocket Computer Model Version 4.41 so as not to overwrite the readme file for the palette editor & added a view button to the WRCM 3D Optimisation Palette Editor. See the readme.txt file for details on the WRCM and readpal.txt file for details on the WRCM Palette editor v1.10.

  • 13th March 2001 - Added glue removal to the problems page.
  • 12th February and 8th March 2001 - Some Water Rocketry PC Windows Wallpaper designs. Download these and put them on your PC.
  • 16th January 2001 - Another problem (7). See if you can work this one out.
  • 9th January 2001 - Water Rocket Computer Model Version 4.40 & WRCM 3D Optimisation Palette Editor. V4.40 works the same as V4.31 except that you can now choose the order that the colour schemes come in and you can create more using the palette editor. See the readme.txt file for details on the WRCM and readpal.txt file for details on the WRCM Palette editor.

  • 19th December 2000 - Water Rocket Computer Model Version 4.31. Removed an "s" from the code. Anyone who has version 4.30 should update to this if they want to use the Novice version. See the readme.txt file for details.

  • 8th November 2000 - 2 Litre Dart Rocket - a passive second stage rocket made from a 2 litre bottle and some uPVC pipe. Look at the pictures of this high altitude beast before it soars around 500 feet into the troposphere and then all but gets lost.
  • 3rd August 2000 - Water Rocket Computer Model Version 4.25. Added two effects that almost cancel each other out in "normal" rockets. See the readme.txt file for details.

  • 30th June 2000 - Posted plans of the 2 Stage Rocket, How I made the Staging Mechanism and Pictures.
  • 4th June 2000 - Recorded and digitised some launches for the 1 litre Power Rocket and the Silver 2 litre Rocket. The sounds and a Fourier analysis of each one (see what you are listening to as well :-) are at the bottoms of the picture pages for each of the two rockets - 1 litre Power Rocket and the Silver 2 litre Rocket. I also did a Fourier transform on the sound file for the 6 litre rocket and it is now possible to see the two whistles.

Current

  • Retro Rocket Recovery System. A small rocket mounted on the front of the rocket to provide a reverse thrust at the last moment. I found some 19mm OD PVC tubing so now all I need to do is test it at the right pressure.
